Rules & Terms

General information - applying to The New School for Public Engagement

  • The application deadline is April 1, 2015. Applications and all supporting documents must reach The New School by this date.
  • All applicants are required to apply online. The application, application fee, and most supporting materials are submitted through the online application.
  • Plan ahead to ensure sufficient time to prepare additional supporting materials such as official transcripts, test scores, or other requirements, as specified below.
  • Official transcripts and test scores can be sent directly to the admission office:

  • All supplemental materials are due by April 1, 2015.

The New School application requires:

  • Completed online application
  • Application fee: a non-refundable $50 application fee, payable as part of the online application
  • Official transcripts: all applicants must submit official college transcripts from all institutions where they have received college credit
  • Applicants who would like to transfer academic credits earned at non-US institutions are required to have their transcript(s) evaluated by World Education Services (WES), or another member of the National Association of Credit Evaluation Services (NACES)
  • Transfer applicants who have completed fewer than 24 college credits must also submit high school transcripts
  • A certified English language translation must be provided for all official international transcripts that are not written in English

Eligibility

Open to adult and transfer students that want to complete their bachelor's degree at The New School for Public Engagement. To be eligible to win the scholarship prize, you need a minimum level of high school/upper secondary school education. Winners are expected to start their bachelor’s program in the fall of 2015.

In order to be selected as a finalist in the competition, the participant needs to submit a complete application to the New School for Public Engagement. To claim the scholarship prize, the winner must fulfill all enrollment requirements set by The New School for Public Engagement and be accepted by the Admissions Office.

Prizes

No prize alternatives or cash equivalents are offered. Prizes are non-transferable. The winner is solely responsible for all applicable taxes related to the acceptance of the prize.

The value of the scholarship varies depending on the chosen program. The prize has a maximum value of $160,000.

Miscellaneous

The jury, consisting of representatives from Student Competitions and The New School for Public Engagement reserves the right to choose the winners at their sole discretion. The jury also reserves the right to choose fewer than the predetermined number of winners if, in the jury’s sole discretion, an insufficient number of eligible and/or qualified entries are received. Incomplete and/or inaccurate entries and entries not complying with all rules are subject to disqualification.

The terms are governed by Swedish law and therefore you submit to the jurisdiction of the Swedish courts. Student Competitions reserves the right to change these terms at any time.

Participation

Only one entry is accepted per participant. All participation in the competition must be individual.

English Language Proficiency and College Entrance Tests

  • English is the language of instruction at The New School. You must be able to understand English well and express yourself clearly in speech and writing.
  • Applicants who are not native English speakers are required to submit TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), IELTS (International English Language Testing System), or PTE (Pearson Test of English) results.
    • TOEFL/IELTS/PTE is not required if you are a citizen of any of the following countries and your native language is English: England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, or South Africa
    • TOEFL/IELTS/PTE is not required if you have earned a 4-year degree from a U.S. college/university
  • The TOEFL/IELTS/PTE score report must be submitted directly to The New School by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).
  • Contact the Office of Admission if you have questions on comparison scores for other forms of the TOEFL (e.g. paper-based).

Terms & conditions

When registering an account, it is necessary to accept Student Competitions' Terms & Conditions, which apply for all competitions organized by Student Competitions AB. These include:

  • All users must provide a submission that the user has created him/herself.
  • All users must provide personal information that is truthful and accurate.
  • Student Competitions reserves the right to exclude users at their sole discretion.
  • The video you submit as part of the competition will be posted at www.finishatthenewschool.com/submissions.html and will be visible to all visitors of the site. By submitting a video, you have given your consent to the publishing of your video on the official competition site. If you do not wish to show your video submission on the competition site, please contact us.
  • Note
    If you choose to use music in your video, you must ensure that you have legal permission to do so and it is not under copyright.

Tuition Scholarship Terms of Acceptance

Full-scholarship:

  • Scholarship covers 100% of tuition fee and mandatory fees up to the amount of credits that the student needs to maintain their degree. Student must maintain a 2.0 GPA and 67% completion rate in order to maintain scholarship eligibility.
  • The scholarship can only be used for degree-related classes (non-­credit classes will not be covered).
  • Student must attend full time.
  • If the winning student is receiving tuition scholarship(s) from another source, The New School scholarship may be reduced by that amount.
  • The scholarship can be revoked if the student withdraws or takes a leave from the program.
  • **The scholarship is for tuition and fee charges only. It may not be used for housing, health insurance, living expenses or food plans.

Half-scholarship:

  • Scholarship covers 50% of tuition and mandatory fees for up to the amount of credits the student needs to maintain their degree. The student must maintain a 2.0 GPA and 67% completion rate in order to maintain scholarship eligibility.
  • The scholarship can only be used for degree-related classes (non-­credit classes will not be covered).
  • Student must attend full time.
  • If the winning student is receiving Tuition Scholarship(s) from another source, TNS scholarship may be reduced by that amount.
  • The scholarship can be revoked if the student withdraws or takes a leave from the program.
  • **The scholarship is for tuition and fee charges only. May not be used for housing, health insurance, living expenses or food plans.
